Overview
A physician assistant is a competent healthcare provider that works under the supervision of specialised doctors and supports to provide patient care as well as aid with all surgical and medical procedures. The duties of a physician assistant differ based on the doctors that supervise them. Examining patients to give information to doctors, eliciting medical histories, and doing physical tests such as weight, height, BMI, blood pressure and pulse rate are all part of the job. He/she also conducts managerial activities such as organising doctor appointments, making rounds in wards with doctors, and preparing and storing progress records. They are also in charge of ordering laboratory testing, counselling, and educating patients about illness prevention and wellness under the able guidance of doctors.
Physician assistants work in all areas of medicine, including primary care and family medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, and psychiatry. They can also work with hospitals, nursing homes, medical offices, community health centres, medical colleges, super specialty hospitals, and retail clinics and workplace clinics.
