Overview
Kidney disease is one of the fastest-growing causes of death globally. As per various studies, every year more than 2 lakh cases of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), a condition where kidneys are functioning so minimally that they can no longer support a person’s day-to-day life, get added in India. This has resulted in the demand for dialysis (an artificial process of eliminating waste from the blood) growing at a rate of 31% per year, compared to 8% in the rest of the world.
To address this issue, the public and private health care sectors are making efforts to increase dialysis centres all over India, thereby fueling the increasing demand for trained and qualified professionals. Apart from well-qualified clinicians, these dialysis centres require trained dialysis technologists, who are essential members of the team in providing specialised care to kidney failure patients.
This is an ever-expanding field, and there are many patients in need of such care in the country and around the world. In fact, only a few institutions in India offer a well-designed, robust, and practically oriented programme in dialysis technology. Keeping this in mind, our B.Sc. curriculum is designed to produce trained and expert professionals who will be competent enough to take up the job of dialysis technologist in medical colleges, hospitals, nursing homes, dialysis centres, super specialty hospitals, etc. after successfully completing the programme.
