Overview

Emergency and critical care technology is an area of allied health sciences that provides support to patient-centred and highly effective care to critically ill patients. It is the specialised and comprehensive care of patients with life-threatening disorders, from pre-hospital assessment to release from critical and acute care settings. A critical care technologist will have in-depth knowledge of advanced life-saving techniques, as well as the working and handling of all the devices and equipment used in hospital ICUs and CCUs and will thus provide life support to critically ill patients and assist them in surviving the critical situation.

In the absence of a registered medical practitioner, these technologists are trained to monitor equipment, record essential data, and share vital data with physicians, as well as to offer first-aid to patients. They are trained to handle a wide range of injuries and physical ailments, as well as transport patients to outside facilities for further care. As a result, they can work with hospitals, nursing homes, community health centres, medical colleges, and super specialty hospitals.

Eligibility

FOR INDIAN STUDENTS

1) He/she has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2), or equivalent examination recognized by any Indian University or a duly constituted Board with pass marks (50%) in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Mathematics.

OR

1) Diploma in relevant stream after completing 12th class/ 10 +2 of CBSE or equivalent with minimum aggregate of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics provided the candidate has passed in each subject separately.

AND

2) The candidate should be at the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will be completing the said age on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the first year.

FOR NRI/PIO/FN STUDENTS

 1) A candidate in any of these categories shall have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the first year.

2) He/she must have Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Life Sciences and English (and desirably Mathematics) at the CBSE, ISC, HSC or an equivalent examination. In the case of a student from any school that follows the American system of education, the candidate must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology (and desirably Mathematics) at AP' (Advanced Placement) level and must have minimum 'C' grade in these subjects.

 3) In the case of students passing Cambridge International Examination (CIE) the candidate should have passed Physics, Chemistry and Biology at “Advanced” level along with English at “Advanced Subsidiary” (AS) level.
  • An NRI is a person who is not a resident or who is not ordinarily resident. A person is treated as not ordinarily resident (i) if he/she has been resident in India for less than 182 days in the year preceding the date of application; or (ii) If he/she has been in India for less than 365 days during the four years immediately preceding date of application.
  • A PIO is a person having foreign citizenship (except Pakistan and Bangladesh) within NRI status, but who holds a foreign passport at the time of sending application or at the time of consideration of admission and during the period of his study and whose one / both parents or anyone/both grandparents is (or was) / are (or were) citizen(s) of India by virtue of the provisions of the Constitution of India or Section 2(b) of Citizenship Act 1955 (Act No. 57 of 1955).
  • An FN is a person having citizenship of a foreign country and not having the status NRI and/ or PIO.

Respiratory Care Technology (RCT) / B.Sc. Physician Assistant (PA) / B.Sc. Emergency and Critical Care Technology (ECCT))

Lateral entry to second year (third semester) onwards for candidates who have passed diploma programme from Govt. boards and recognized by State/Central University, fulfilling the conditions specified. These students will be eligible to take admission on lateral entry system only if the same subjects have been studied at diploma level and as per the decision of the university based on the review.

  • Students completing 1 year Diploma after 10+2: Admission to 3rd Semester.
  • Students completing 2 years Diploma after 10+2: Admission to 5th Semester
Provision for Lateral Exit

(For B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) / B.Sc. Respiratory Care Technology (RCT) / B.Sc. Physician Assistant (PA) / B.Sc. Emergency and Critical Care Technology (ECCT))
